Medals For Canada At the Continental Cup and ISKA World Championships


The Canadian Taekwon-do Federation recently sent a five man team, to the Continental cup in Jamaica.  The team was made up of one man from each weight division, Micro,( Maxime Bujold from Quebec)  light, (Richard Nguyen from Quebec ) middle, ( Aziz Abdellahi from Quebec ) heavy, ( Mike Blom from BC ) and hyper ( Steven Legrow from Ontario ).  The team, headed by Canadian Team Coach Mr. Don Smith, competed against five other Countries- including Jamaica, New Zeland, Argentina, Poland, and Japan- for the Continental gold Cup.  Canada finished third in the team sparring and had several placings in the individual competitions.  They were: micro weight, Maxime Bujold second place, heavy weight Mike Blom third place, hyper weight Steven Legrow third place.

 After this competition was over the six teams them travelled to Orlando Florida to compete in the United States biggest open tournament, the US Open World ISKA Championships.  This tournament brings the best from all over the world and from all Martial art disciplines to in many different events.  The competitors From the six countriesrepresenting the International Taekwon-do Federation competed in the continuous sparring divisions.  Here are the standings from the Canadian athletes:  Richard Nguyen placed third in 159lbs and under,  Mike Blom placed Second in 170lbs-179lbs division Aziz Abdellahi placed first in the 160lbs-169lbs division, Steven Legrow placed second in the 200lbs-230lb division.  Don Smith placed second in the 159lbs and under division.
